Hooked

In this dark and twisted reimagining of Peter Pan, Emily McIntire serves up a fractured fairy tale with a side of vengeance and desire. This was my first dive into the dark romance genre, and WOW. I was intrigued by the mystery/plot, and I liked the character development of Wendy and James.

What I loved:

  1. Wendy discovering her inner strength

  2. The sweet moments between Wendy + James

  3. The many references to the Peter Pan story

The suspense kept me hooked (see what I did there), but I wanted more story rather than all of the steamy scenes. There were A LOT. I wanted to learn more about the main characters, especially James. Although, I think that's part of the point of dark romances. I did appreciate how the author poked fun at Wendy by having her constantly question her sanity since she was drawn back to James during the darkest moments.

As my first book in this genre, I think it was a fun read. If you're a fan of fractured, dark fairy tale retellings with a dose of suspense, this is for you.
