Ruthless Vows

Returning to the world of Iris and Roman after the cliffhanger in "Divine Rivals" was a thrilling experience in "Ruthless Vows" by Rebecca Ross. Though it took me a while to get into the story, once the action picked up in Oath, I was excited to see how it would all end.

I was nervous the whole time for Roman and loved when he and Iris saw each other for the first time after being separated. I especially loved seeing the moment Roman stood up for himself. It was great to be back with these characters again, but I feel like this edition was missing some magic that was in the first book.

What I loved:

  1. Iris + Roman (especially the ending)

  2. The letters

  3. Learning more about Dacre and the magical world

However, A LOT was going on and so much was revealed that it's a lot to remember. The intricate web of plots and subplots can be overwhelming, but it’s a testament to Maas' storytelling prowess that she can keep us hooked despite the complexity. I will say, that Danika reminds me of Dumbledore in the way she kept a lot of secrets making Bryce have to work hard to get answers, just like Harry had to do. HA!

I'm so nervous about the third book based on where the characters have been left off. I am super worried about Hunt, Ruhn, and Baxian. (Don't hurt my boys!) I have heard mixed reviews on the next book so I am going in with lower expectations. Wish me luck!
