The Only One Left
This is my first Sager book and let me tell you that I will definitely be reading more from him. The Only One Left, is an eerie tale set against the backdrop of a dilapidated mansion on the edge of a cliff. The isolated setting of Hope’s End immediately drew me in, setting the tone for a chilling and suspenseful mystery that hooked me from the start.
Kit McDeere, the story's protagonist, was a compelling character to follow. Her determination to uncover the truth behind the infamous Hope family murders made her easy to root for, and I found myself eagerly turning pages to see what she would discover next. The dual timeline format, alternating between Lenora’s past and Kit’s present, was expertly handled and added depth to the narrative. I especially enjoyed the insight into Lenora’s past, which was as haunting as it was intriguing.
What I loved:
The Mystery
The Setting
Lenora's Secret
While the reveals and twists at the end were plentiful and shocking, they did come at a pace that made it a bit difficult to absorb them all fully. It felt like one twist after another, leaving me little time to process each one before the next hit. That said, the overall impact of the story was still strong, and Sager’s ability to keep me guessing until the very end is something I always appreciate.
If you’re a fan of twisty thrillers and haunted mansions, this one is definitely worth a read. Just be prepared for a whirlwind of revelations in the final chapters! 🌟
