Apprentice to the Villain
I was thrilled to dive back into the world of "Apprentice to the Villain" and reunite with the characters I’ve come to love. Maehrer has once again delivered a delightful mix of humor, tension, and heart.
The banter and chemistry between Evie and Trystan are on point, and I found myself grinning through most of their interactions. Kingsley, as always, is a joy, and it was such a treat to dive deeper into Becky’s backstory—her chapters added a fresh layer to the narrative. Plus, I loved that a certain "mission" was at the beginning and wasn't dragged out. (So hard to not give things away)
What I loved:
Kingsley
Evie + Trystan
Becky's chapters
The humor in this book is spot on! I was laughing out loud at so many moments. Maehrer’s wit is sharp, and there’s a lightness to the story that makes it an enjoyable, easy read. However, I did feel that the plot could have used a bit more momentum. Much of the focus is on the romance (which I loved), but I found myself wishing for a bit more development between Evie and Tristan beyond their romantic dynamic.
That said, "Apprentice to the Villain" was still a super fun read, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment in this quirky, magical world!
