Unholy Bonds

"Unholy Bonds" by Maya Raine presents an intriguing premise with a dark, twisted romance that intertwines the lives of two serial killers. With a strong FMC and a gritty storyline, this book promises a thrilling ride for dark romance enthusiasts. However, I found myself struggling to fully immerse in the story.

The premise and some side characters, like Enzo, piqued my interest. Going into this one, I hoped for some Butcher & Blackbird vibes, and it delivered but was more twisted. Yara West, a Medical Examiner by day and killer by night, and Ryden Sinclair, a vigilante carving his own justice, are fascinating characters with a lot of potential.

What I liked:

  1. The serial killer premise

  2. Enzo

  3. Kat's one-liners

Unfortunately, the minimal descriptions of characters and settings made it hard to get fully immersed in the scenes and story. The dialogue, especially between friend characters, felt clunky, which hindered my investment in their relationships. The lack of depth in descriptions and interactions made it difficult to connect with the characters and their world.

While this wasn't the one for me, dark romance fans might find it appealing. The book does have its moments and if you're into dark, twisted tales, this could be worth a read. However, be sure to read the trigger warnings as the content can be intense. (Also, beware of the cliffhanger!)
