Below Zero
'Below Zero,' follows the third and final friend of the STEM short stories collection, Hannah. Hannah, a NASA aerospace engineer, finds herself in an unfortunate predicament, injured and stranded in the Arctic. To her dismay, the one person coming to her rescue is none other than Ian, her longtime rival.
I liked Hannah and her boldness, but it was her hidden insecurities that made her a relatable character. Ian was a great combination to Hannah (he just wants to take you to dinner, Hannah!), and I enjoyed the NASA focus. The narrative kicks off with a promise of tension and unexpected sparks, and it did not disappoint.
What I loved:
Hannah + Ian
The Arctic setting
Revisiting characters from previous stories
The chemistry between Hannah and Ian was wonderful, and the evolution of their relationship was a joy to witness. I appreciated that the miscommunication didn't linger excessively, allowing the story to unfold smoothly. The reappearance of characters from earlier books added a delightful layer of continuity.
While 'Below Zero' may not reinvent the wheel in terms of character archetypes, the blend of icy landscapes, simmering romance, and a touch of danger made it an enjoyable read.
