Bride
This is Ali Hazelwood's dive into the fantasy genre filled with vampires and werewolves and I have to say I think she created a solid foundation. It's been a while since I've delved into a vampire tale, and Hazelwood's installment did not disappoint. However, while the emphasis on romance was enjoyable, I found myself longing for more action throughout the book.
This story follows 'Misery' Lark, the daughter of a powerful Vampyre councilman, who finds herself thrust into a marriage of convenience with Lowe Moreland, the Alpha of the Weres. Their union is not without its complications, as both parties harbor distrust and hidden motives. As you can guess, a simmering romance ignites between Misery and Lowe.
What I loved:
Romance between Misery and Lowe
World-building
Misery's sassiness
The chemistry between Misery and Lowe is steamy and only builds as the story progresses. I appreciated Hazelwood's attention to world-building, which immersed me in the politics between vampires, weres, and humans. However, it took me a moment to find my footing at the beginning, due to the jumpiness in narration.
Overall, 'Bride' is a fun read that balances romance with supernatural intrigue. Misery's spirited personality and the intricacies of her relationship with Lowe kept me engaged until the very end. Fans of paranormal romance will enjoy this book. It leaves it open for a second, which I will happily be buying in the future.
