The Thursday Murder Club
This novel was a delight! Richard Osman charms and entertains in this cozy mystery debut novel. This story introduces readers to an unlikely quartet of retirees who gather weekly to solve cold cases but find themselves embroiled in a live investigation when a murder occurs right in their retirement village.
Led by the spirited Elizabeth, the Thursday Murder Club—comprised of Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron—proves that age is just a number when it comes to solving crimes. Osman's witty humor and sharp characterizations breathe life into each member of the club, with Joyce emerging as my standout favorite. I loved her spunk, wit, and, of course, the baked goods!
What I loved:
The humor
Joyce
The setting
The narrative is peppered with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end. As the investigation unfolds, you can't help but become invested in the lives of these endearing characters and the secrets they uncover. Elizabeth, in particular, is a force to be reckoned with, and her mysterious past adds an intriguing layer to the story.
'The Thursday Murder Club' is a testament to the power of friendship, curiosity, and never underestimating the elderly. The clever plotting and warm-hearted humor make it a delightful read from start to finish. Plus, who doesn't love a mystery solved by a group of savvy seniors? (I love alliteration)
