Ship of Shadows
Set against the backdrop of a captivating Peter Pan retelling, this tale follows the fiery Princess Gabrielle and the charming yet enigmatic pirate lord, Bastian Lore. Their tumultuous history is fraught with betrayal and heartache, but when circumstances force them to work together once more, sparks fly as they navigate treacherous waters and confront their deepest fears.
What a fun fairytale retelling with all the banter and sass one could ever want. Bastian and Gabrielle had A LOT of tension between them which added a delightful layer of spice to their dynamic. I loved seeing all the references to the Peter Pan story and I enjoyed the side characters. I especially loved Driscoll and Leoni's growing, hilarious-filled friendship.
What I loved:
Peter Pan references
The banter between Bastian and Gabrielle
Driscoll
While the story takes a bit of time to get going, the second half of the book sets sail (pun intended) at full speed, drawing readers deeper into the intricate web of alliances and betrayals. The nods to the classic Peter Pan story, from the Lost Boys to the shadows, add a nostalgic charm to the narrative, inviting readers to rediscover the magic of Neverland in a fresh and exhilarating way.
Admittedly, there were moments when I wanted to shake Bastian and Gabrielle for their stubbornness and kept secrets from each other, but their journey of redemption and reconciliation ultimately won me over. If you're a fan of Disney with some spice, "Ship of Shadows" delivers.
If this review has made you interested in the book, good news! It's out today, so you can set sail on this thrilling adventure right away! (I can't stop with the pirate puns π)
