The Bully
"The Bully" serves up another enjoyable installment in Devney Perry's Calamity Montana standalone series, offering a blend of tension, nostalgia, and small-town charm. While it may not be my favorite in the series, it certainly delivers a cozy and entertaining read.
Nellie Rivera’s move from Denver to the tranquil town of Calamity, Montana, promises a fresh start—until her high school nemesis, Cal Stark, shows up. The dynamic between the two main characters is a classic enemies-to-lovers trope, filled with playful banter and underlying tension that keeps the story engaging. The diary entries were a delightful addition, adding depth to Nellie’s character and providing a unique glimpse into her past and present emotions.
What I loved:
Diary entries
The push and pull between Nellie and Cal
Small-town setting
The small-town setting adds a layer of warmth and familiarity to the story, making it easy to get lost in the charm of Calamity. The fast-paced narrative and cute interactions between Nellie and Cal make for a quick and enjoyable read.
However, much of the conflict could have been resolved with better communication. The lack of dialogue between the characters about their past and motivations sometimes felt frustrating.
