Tower of Dawn
Diving into 'Tower of Dawn,' the unexpected tangent in the 'Throne of Glass' series, was like stepping into a world within a world. While initially wary of a novel centered around Chaol, I was pleasantly surprised. This book offered a deep dive into the Southern Continent, and Yrene Towers stole the spotlight.
Yrene's character development and the expansion of her powers made her the shining star of this story. I was also happy to see more of Nesryn and her personal growth. Together, these two fierce women brought a refreshing dynamic to the narrative.
What I loved:
Yrene (so happy to see her back)
Nesryn's Evolving Character Arc
Chaol and Yrene
I didn't mind Chaol as the story unfolded. Chaol, despite his frustrating moments, found redemption in his vulnerability and growth. His connection with Yrene was a highlight, and the slow-burn romance was beautifully portrayed. Plus, Maas masterfully wove in important revelations that added depth to the overall series plot. (I couldn't believe the reveal in Ch. 48)
Without giving anything away, I'm looking forward to all the reunions (hopefully happy) in the next book. 'Tower of Dawn' may have been an unexpected detour, but it contributed to the richness of the series. Would I feel different if I had read this after Empire of Storms? Probably. Whoever put together the tandem read guide is a saint!
