Hook, Line, and Sinker
This installment is the sequel to 'It Happened One Summer' and follows Fox, Brendan's flirty best friend, and Hannah, Piper's younger sister. I REALLY wanted to like this one because of my interest in Hannah and Fox in the first book, but I felt let down by the end of this novel.
I had high hopes for the dynamic between the two main characters, however, I felt like the story was more about Fox coping with his internal struggles than the relationship. I found myself wanting more of a fight between staying friends or evolving into something more.
What I loved:
Hannah's fight for her career
Hannah connecting with her deceased father
Fox overcoming his insecurities
While the banter and chemistry between Fox and Hannah had moments of charm, I couldn't fully invest in their relationship due to the unexpected narrative focus on Fox's internal conflict. The glimpses of his conflict were appreciated, but they overshadowed the potential growth of their connection.
Perhaps my expectations influenced my experience, but it didn't quite deliver the romantic exploration I was hoping for.
