It Happened One Summer

This story follows Piper, a spoiled rich girl who gets a reality check when her stepfather cuts her off and sends her to run her father's dive bar in Washington with her sister. She meets Brendan, a sea captain, who challenges Piper throughout the novel.

Okay, I have now realized that the wild, spoiled rich girl is not my favorite trope, which explains why Piper was frustrating. The banter between her and Brendan created some great chemistry, and I liked the sweet gestures Brendan made to help her fix her father's bar. However, I loved seeing the relationship between Piper and her sister Hannah more than the actual romance.

What I loved:

  1. The small town of Westport

  2. Brendan

  3. Piper + Hannah

Even though it wasn't my favorite romance book, this was a cute, light read. If you are into small-town romances and looking for something quick to read, this is probably for you. Just don't go in expecting a lot, which is okay because not every book needs to blow your mind.
