The Brood

Wilder Abbott, a solitary high school teacher, reluctantly agrees to host his friend’s lively and inquisitive younger sister, Iris Monroe, for two months. As Iris’ presence disrupts his secluded life, Wilder finds it increasingly difficult to keep his secrets hidden.

I was curious about Wilder going into this one based on the previous book, and I was intrigued by his backstory. Iris was a great partner to his brooding (see what I did there) nature. She was bright and colorful, and I loved her concept of traveling the world two months at a time and being an influencer. Iris’ journey of self-discovery was beautiful because she had to stand up for herself and go against her family’s expectations to find herself, which is no easy feat.

What I loved:

  1. Wilder + Iris

  2. Iris’ vibrant personality

  3. The setting

The dynamic between the main characters was great, and I enjoyed their push and pull. There were moments when Wilder acted ridiculously, but I loved how Iris called him out. She took nothing from no one, and I was here for it! Iris will be a favorite of mine for a long time.
